Jobs + Volunteers
Interested in becoming a Dolphin Marine Conservation volunteer?
Dolphin Marine Conservation - Pet Porpoise Pool Pty Ltd is pleased to offer volunteer opportunities to individuals who wish to gain experience working with animals and who share our passion for conservation of animals, particularly marine mammals and their environment. The program is open to high school students wishing to undertake 'work experience' or university.
- Work Experience Programme - Open to school students year 10 & above. These students undertake a block of full time work at DMM, usually for a period of 1 week.
Dolphin Marine Conservation has been open for over 40 years now and provides a unique and extremely interactive animal experience for our guests. We believe that by doing this, we are encouraging our visitors to share our passion for the conservation of the world's marine mammals and their environment.
We have 2 show times a day - 10am and 1pm, before each of these shows guests are able to receive both a seal and dolphin kiss and feed a fish to one of our seals. The show consists of 3 seal segments and 2 dolphin segments, after the show concludes guests are then able to pat the dolphins. Following this we have the reef tank feeding and then lastly the Little Penguin feeding which all the guests can participate in. During other times of the day guests are free to pat and play with our dolphins.
Successful applicants will commence with 'hands on' experience working in various areas of an animal park and will include duties such as: cleaning enclosures, assisting with food prep, assisting in crowd control and helping guests in show participation, assisting in reef tank and Little penguin feeding, assisting in feeding animals, care of rehabilitation animals and aquariums, cleaning of food buckets and fish kitchen, etc. The work placement hours are from 8.30am to 4.00pm with a one hour lunch.
Due to a high demand for participation in our programmes and the limited places, persons wishing to take part in the programmes are requested to apply generally via e-mail or in writing. Persons need to state what courses they are studying, why they wish to participate in the programme and what they believe they can contribute.
Please be aware that due to the popularity of our work placement program we are fully booked up to 12 months in advance.
