At Dolphin Marine Conservation Park waste disposal, water and energy use have all gone under the environmental microscope, all with an outcome in mind to minimise our environmental impact.

Sustainable living is all about reducing your personal carbon footprint. By making some very simple choices, everyone can contribute to the health and well-being of our planet. Some people see sustainable living as a step backward in time and technology, in reality, it is those who practice this lifestyle do so through the use of some of the most advanced technology available. Things like solar and wind power have come along way and are examples of renewable energy sources. Smarter lighting, for example LED last longer, burns brighter, is mercury free and uses much less energy. Along with changing your incandescent lighting to LED the list below outlines some simple things you can do in your home.

  • Turn off the lights when you leave the room
  • Take shorter showers
  • Sort your rubbish
  • Use Green Power
  • Collect rain water for watering your garden
  • Walk, ride your bicycle or use public transit when possible
  • Buy food as close to home as possible and in season
  • Only buy sustainable seafood - there is a free app available at the Apple App store
  • Go Non Toxic - in cleaning and gardening
  • Compost all organic material
  • Reuse, recycle, and re-purpose
  • Minimise your hot water usage
  • Choose fresh food over frozen, canned or processed
  • Buy clothes to last
  • Off set your flights
  • Only buy what you need
  • Refuse junk mail
  • Sign up for online news
  • Eat less animal products
  • Plant native species
  • Recycle old mobile phone batteries
  • Change to LED lighting

I went up there nearly 2 yrs now after I turned 50. I had received money for my birthday and decided I wanted to do the “trainer for the day” experience. Was the best thing I have ever done in my life, seeing the behind the scene as well getting up and close to all the animals, my favourite parts were taking Elle for her walk around park twice, involved in show, and of course my experiences wi..

I took my two youngest grandchildren there in July 2018, they both loved it and still talk about it to this day, so we are planning to return with my oldest grandchild as well. They don't like the drive from Sydney, but they do love it there so it makes it worth the trip. Great place, educational and fun. Thank you Sharon, we look forward to seeing you again..
