Social Responsibility

At Dolphin Marine Conservation Park (Pet Porpoise Pool) we believe our social responsibility is based on business decisions and activities the staff and management make that affects our community and our environment.

Only through transparent and ethical behaviour can we contribute to sustainable practices, including the health and the welfare of our community and environment. We do this by taking into account the expectations of our stakeholders, complying or exceeding best practice environmental practices, and by taking responsibility for our actions.

In 2009 we joined the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage in their Sustainability Advantage Program to boost our environmental performance. The program was designed to reduce risk, lowers costs, improve productivity and enhance our reputation. In June 2011 we were presented with our -Bronze Partner' plaque for our achievements by reducing our water consumption by more than 12% and energy costs by almost 11%. Later in the same year we were presented with a 'ZERO Carbon Footprint for Waste to Landfill' award by our regional waste management company, Handybin in conjunction with Impact Environmental. We are currently working toward our -Silver Partnership' which we plan to achieve in the near future.

We pride ourselves on our ability to influence our guests to make better choices in their waste disposal by showing that our animals can recycle plastic bottles in the appropriate bin and challenging them by saying, 'if a seal can do it, so can you!' As a result of our efforts, we recycle more than 80% of all the waste generated throughout the park.

"Growing up on a cattle property I did not have much experience with working with marine animals. This meant that when the opportunity came up to study the Certificate 3 Captive Animal course and complete work placement at Dolphin Marine Conservation Park I jumped at the chance. It was amazing to work with all of the animals at the park, learning the ropes and all of the ways that the keepers care for the animals. This opportunity has led me to become a volunteer for Dolphin Marine Rescue Animal Rehab Trust (DMRART), so that even after I complete my course and placement I am still able to work alongside these amazing animals and the people who care for them." Rebecca TAFE 2020

"Just a quick word to thank the fantastic team at Dolphin Marine Conservation Park & TAFE Coffs Harbour for the opportunity to undergo my work placement for Certificate III Captive Animal studies at this iconic facility. Having such a hands-on experience with the incredible Dolphins, Sea Lions, Little Blue Penguins & Sea Turtles was what made this course so special. The decades of knowledge that was passed on to us as students from the Marine Team and our devoted TAFE teacher has been incredible. This is truly a remarkable place for students to learn!"  sincere thanks, Karen TAFE 2020

Social Events

Northcott Christmas Party December 2015

"Over the years Northcott through our Support Networks Program, and the wonderful staff of the Dolphin Marine Conservation Park, have been able to assist hundreds of individuals and families come together to enjoy the facilities and the attractions at the Dolphin Marine Conservation Park. This ongoing support has been very much appreciated by Northcott and the families we support. Many of the families have met for the first time at the Dolphin Marine Conservation Park, but they go away as life long friends. The smiles and laughter of the children as they enjoy and partake in the shows has been incredibly rewarding for all involved. We thank all those involved at the Dolphin Marine Conservation Park for their ongoing support"

Dreamnight 2006-2013

Dreamnight at the Zoo (Pool)' is a free evening exclusively for chronically ill and disabled children, their parents and brothers and sisters. We were the second park in Australia to join the international foundation to host these magical events. We began in 2006 with the help of our suppliers, partners and our staff all giving their goods, services, and/or time. We thank all those organisations and their staff for their ongoing support - we could not do it without you! In 2012 we welcomed over 300 people to the event our biggest event to date! Santa made an appearance, handing out gift bags for the children, everyone had a kiss by both our dolphins and seals and a grand time was had by all.

Give Me 5 For Kids 2015 - 2019

Dolphin Marine Conservation Park were involved with Southern Cross Austereo for the Give Me 5 For Kids charity fundraiser, raising money for the children's ward at the Coffs Harbour Health Campus. Dolphin Marine Conservation Park donated items for auction, along with opening the park to the public after hours for a special show with 100% of the door money going towards the fundraiser.

"The Dolphin Marine Conservation Park fundraiser was one of the most successful fundraisers we ran in 2015 with close to $2000 raised in total" Jarrad Brooke, Promotion Manager SCA

As part of our commitment to the community and their endeavors to raise funds for worthy causes we give away passes and animal experiences. To receive these gifts we ask that the charity, school, organisation, group or other entity write to us on their letter head outlining the project or cause, including what they are seeking. Dolphin Marine Conservation Park gifts nearly $100,000.00 each year, but more importantly these gifts help raise the needed cash for their respective recipients. testimonial january 2016
"Dolphin Marine Conservation Park is a Wishgranting partner for the Starlight Children's Foundation. A Starlight Wish is an incredible gift of hope during the toughest of times, it helps sick kids and their families dream big and have a break from the everyday stresses of being or having a sick child. From the moment a child is told their Starlight Wish is to be granted the excitement begins. Dreaming, planning and talking about the wish is a great distraction from treatment and surgery. Swimming with dolphins continues to be a popular wish choice. Starlight families always have a fantastic time at Dolphin Marine Conservation Park as the amazing team there keeps the magic alive. Swimming with the dolphins is a great experience which brings the family together and gives them memories that last a lifetime. Even after the Starlight Wish has been granted we hear of kids talking about their dolphin swim weeks, months and sometimes even years onward. We couldn't have granted the number of Starlight Wishes we have without the ongoing generosity and support of Dolphin Marine Conservation Park, and we're excited to grant many more wishes together in the future!" Charlotte Barry Starlight Children's Foundation

Marine Conservation

As well as fostering conservation through our Marine Presentations we actively help National Parks & Wildlife Services with marine animal incidents, under a Memorandum of Understanding we have with them. This includes travelling to the incident and volunteering as needed. We support these incidents with our vet who specialises in marine animals. Over 45 turtles have been rescued, rehabilitated and released during the 2011-12 year. In 2010-2011 the weather patterns played havoc with these animals' natural food supplies and turbulent seas saw them in abundance on the beaches. For more stories on some of the more notable work we do check out our News

My mum and I just spend the whole weekend at Pet Porpoise Pool, we travel from Tweed to Coffs just to see Buck and Zip, we love them and can't get enough. Already driven down 3 times this year, and every time it's amazing. And we loved seeing all 5 dolphins in the pool, Bella's a sneaky little thing! We got drenched by her plenty of times hahaha. Great to hear you enjoyed yourselves - Paige S..

Every time I come to Coffs Harbour I visit marine magic! My family and I can’t get enough of these beautiful animals. Can’t wait to bring my partner this year so he can experience why I love it so much. Thank you Georgia, we look forward to welcoming you back to the park!..

I went up there nearly 2 yrs now after I turned 50. I had received money for my birthday and decided I wanted to do the “trainer for the day” experience. Was the best thing I have ever done in my life, seeing the behind the scene as well getting up and close to all the animals, my favourite parts were taking Elle for her walk around park twice, involved in show, and of course my experiences wi..

Thank you for our tour of your park. We have attended 3 times within the last 11years and have found this way was an amazing way to get up close with the animals and learn more about them. Our guide had lots of information to share and was very good at engaging with the children in the group. Highly recommend. We attended on the 14/7/20 Thank you for taking the time to share your lat..

Hi Diane, Thank you for your lovely feedback, this is new to all..

I took my two youngest grandchildren there in July 2018, they both loved it and still talk about it to this day, so we are planning to return with my oldest grandchild as well. They don't like the drive from Sydney, but they do love it there so it makes it worth the trip. Great place, educational and fun. Thank you Sharon, we look forward to seeing you again..

Best birthday ever! I spent two days at Coffs Harbour on January 6 and January 7. I travelled down on the 5th and left on the 8th, my sole reason for traveling 7 hours by train each way being to spend my birthday at your park which is on January 6. I loved it so much and everyone was so friendly that I have already booked my next holiday for 2021 so I can see you all again. My first day I book..
